The Road To The Angels II

We left Kerrville and drove to Austin, where we had a great meal at Polvo's before our gig with Dead Meadow. Good to visit with some friends that we haven't seen in a long time. We also had some time to hit some vintage shops. I bought a new belt buckle.

Goldwing. Funny.

Next night was Houston with The Black Angels. Finally.

The Long Road To The Angels

For some reason I've been having a lot of trouble posting this entry with my "smart" phone. Needless to say, two failed attempts have eroded my excitement about putting up a bunch of photos and text, so here's the truncated version:

Day drinking in Tucson.
Acoustic show in Phoenix.
Another run at the junkyard for van parts. No dice.
Drive to Albuquerque. Great show.
Overnight drive to Luke's mama's in Kerrville, TX, hometown of most of the 13th Floor Elevators.

My new friend Kimbo. He loves chasing sticks.
I finished Captains Courageous. Same plot as Cabin Boy.

Tucson

After a ripping night in Las Vegas (Merchy Rob and I passed out in the van. Getting back into the hotel room was too much hassle), we headed out to Tucson, riding under a daylight moon before the mountains of madness.

We played a great show at Solar Culture, then spent the night at Weezie, Jade, and Rose's. Merchy, Rose, and I got up early to go to the junkyard so that we could fix one of the more minor problems with the tour van - the major ones being the crappy front end and the brakes that we had replaced a month ago at great expense. Anyway, it doesn't matter, because we couldn't find the part. We did see a sweet 67 falcon van, but I stupidly left without taking a photo. Idiot. Please accept the consolation prize, Rose and Rob:

From Wikipedia

The ocelot (Leopardus pardalis), pronounced /ˈɒsəˌlɒt/, also known as the dwarf leopard or McKenney's wildcat[citation needed] is a wild cat distributed over South and Central America and Mexico, but has been reported as far north as Texas and in Trinidad, in the Caribbean. North of Mexico, it is found regularly only in the extreme southern part of Texas,[3] although there are rare sightings in Southern Arizona.[4]

The ocelot is similar in appearance to a domestic cat. Its fur resembles that of a clouded leopard or jaguar and was once regarded as particularly valuable. As a result, hundreds of thousands of ocelots were once killed for their fur. The feline was classified a "vulnerable" endangered species from 1972 until 1996, but is now rated "least concern" by the 2008 IUCN Red List.

A Little Time Traveling

I've been trying to load up on phone photos, especially driving across the southwest. I mentioned in the last post that I had some catching up to do, and here are the first couple from last Friday's trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. You know you're in the desert when you see this.

Once we arrived in Las Vegas we played a really fun show at
The Gypsy Den, and spent the night hanging out at The Beauty Bar with Jamie, who was the star of our Confusion Range video

Pardon the low quality photo. Looks like it's time for sound check. I'll post more soon.

It's A Start...

I just bought my first motorcycle: a 78 CB550, and I've spent so much time lately checking out cool biker blogs, I thought I'd start my own, concentrating on some of the things I'm into... music, traveling, movies, books, comics, delicious food, horror, etc. I've developed a backlog of images since the thought occurred to me, so I'll probably be doing some time traveling for a while in these blog posts.

Right now I'm 5 days into a 6 week tour with my band, so you can expect this to be a travelog for the next little bit. It will help me to ease into daily writing and phone photography.
